Airports and personal space

There is apparantly a large disconnect between a typical person's sense of personal space and airport design. I'm at DFW and it appears people would rather stand or sit on the floor than fill up every seat in a row or sit next to a stranger.

Or it could just be me. This corner I'm sitting smells of stale pituli and feet.
